£5 Pay as You Go Mobiles @ Asda

The low cost Pay as you go mobile phone war has begun.

If you are after a basic, bog standard moble phone with no gadgets and simply want to use it for it's intended pupose, ie to phone someone then Asda has the deal for you.

They have launched the £5.00 Pay as you go mobile phone offer making this the cheapest PAYG available in the UK. Most companies offering cheap PAYG mobiles do so on the proviso that at £10 top up is applied to the phone straight away, but Asda says its customers do not have to sign up to any deal or buy credit.

However Asda have effectively thrown down the retail gaunlet and have possibly viewed the current times of everyone feeling the financial pinch as an opportunity rather than a worrying concern. Trends like this can only be good for the consumer if, as many predict a low cost price war follows.

The Asda chain has aproximately 50,000 handsets to sell at this knock down price nationwide and are certain to be leaving the shelves as fast as they are placed on them.

So what mobiles are on offer ?

Well, there are three handsets from Sagem and one from Nokia.

Sagem My212x
Sagem My220x
Sagem My150x
Nokia 1112

Basic handsets that could even be confined to the back of the glove compartment ready for action just when you need it.

If however you have read this article, yet still fancy a mobile phone complete with all the whistles and bells then the following Website may be of assistance.

Although this is fantastic news and a great deal for the consumer not everyone is impressed, Friends of the Earth said: "Asda claims to be committed to reducing its environmental impact but is encouraging a throwaway culture by marketing cut-price electronic goods as disposable items."
